You understand that by viewing this website, you will be introduced to an integrative holistic approach to psychotherapy that incorporates both traditional and non-traditional methods. In addition, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is offered which is considered an energy-oriented mind-body approach based on the newly emerging field of Energy Psychology. EFT looks at and seeks to address imbalances within the person’s energy system, as well as the energetic influence of thoughts, beliefs, and emotions on the body. The prevailing premise of EFT is that the source of many challenging, stressful, and negative emotions and limiting beliefs is a disruption in the body’s energy system. It is believed that EFT helps clear these disruptions, thereby calming the mind and restoring the flow and balance of the body’s electromagnetic and more subtle energies. EFT uses the ancient Chinese meridian system with a gentle tapping procedure which stimulates designated meridian end points on the face and upper body while focusing on issues of emotional intensity in order to release the intensity and reframe the issues. The theory of energy-based methods such as EFT is that the flow and balance of the body’s electromagnetic and more subtle energies are important for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health, and for fostering well-being. When using EFT as part of a therapy session, the client does the tapping on the client’s own body and the therapist helps guide the session by instructing the client where to tap while saying specific phrases based on the issues that are being worked on.

Although EFT appears to have promising health benefits, and there is a growing amount of scientific research indicating that EFT meets the criteria to be considered an evidence-based technique, EFT is considered outside traditional Western approaches to health and wellness. Therefore, EFT has yet to be thoroughly accepted by the Western academic, medical, and psychological communities. Consequently, EFT may be considered experimental and the extent of its effectiveness, as well as its risk and benefits, are not fully known. EFT is self-regulated and no state in the United States licenses EFT practitioners and considers EFT to be a complementary, alternative, and integrative wellness approach.
